Description

Metronidazole 400mg tablets are used to treat dental infections where bacteria grow in low-oxygen areas, for example deep gum or tooth infections. They are often prescribed for conditions such as gum abscesses and may be used alongside pain relief or other antibiotics when needed. After a quick online consultation, a UK-registered prescriber can issue a private prescription if suitable, and your treatment is dispensed by our pharmacy and sent to you in plain, discreet packaging with fast delivery. You should still arrange to see a dentist as this medicine will not fix the underlying cause of the infection.

What is Metronidazole 400mg?
Metronidazole is an antibiotic that targets anaerobic bacteria – germs that thrive in low-oxygen environments, such as deep gum and dental infections. It works by entering the bacterial cells and interfering with their DNA, stopping them from growing and multiplying so your immune system can clear the infection. To help prevent resistance and ensure the infection is properly treated, it’s important to complete the full course exactly as prescribed, even if your symptoms start to improve.

How it works

Metronidazole works by entering the bacterial cells and damaging their DNA. This stops the bacteria from growing and multiplying, which eventually kills them and helps your body clear the infection.

It is especially effective against anaerobic bacteria (germs that live in low-oxygen areas), which are commonly found in dental abscesses and gum infections. Metronidazole can reach deep into infected tissues and is often used alongside other antibiotics or dental treatment to fully control serious infections and stop them spreading.

Each tablet contains metronidazole as the active ingredient.
